About Anak-Anak
Anak-Anak means "children" in Indonesian when we first started this venture we went to Bali on a family holiday. We love how Balinese people focus on children and put them into the spotlight, their happy and positive attitude and their colourful and bright culture made us come to the decision this would be the best name for our business.
About the products
My main focus lays on comfort and practicality, the fun designs are just the icing on the cake. I make all clothes from scratch and I love it. I make sure everything is perfect. Every product is unique, there is an exclusiveness to every Anak-Anak item as I only make approximately 50 to 100 items per design. I love quirky patterns and colour combos, my favourite designs are gender neutral.
I only use super soft material. Organic cotton or cotton jersey and french terry that consists out of at least 95% pure cotton. No harmful dies, ethically produced in Europe. The best thing about Anak-Anak harems is the ribbing we use for the waist bands and cuffs. The fabric offers about 50% stretch across the rib which means they are the comfiest pants you will find for babies and children and now mums, as well. They will never cut in or feel too tight. They will stay up on skinny minis and stretch for chubby bellies. The cuffs at the bottom also mean that you can buy a bigger size for your toddler without the risk of them tripping on long hems.
More about me (and us)
I am a mother to two little girls who wear Anak-Anak every day. I started sewing when I was 17 years old and made it my job in 2017. I am from Germany and my husband grew up in Ballarat, Victoria. We moved to Australia in 2013 after living in Germany for a couple of years. I was a radio host and studied Literature, Cultural and Media studies and Social Science in my home town Siegen, NRW and in Verona, Italy.
Scott, my husband, is helping out behind the scenes where he can. He is taking care of all the boring numbers stuff. He builds me beautiful display units for markets and is always there to bounce ideas off.

This is what Anak-Anak stands for - my values, aims and beliefs:
I am creating a business with strong ethics and I am making this work for my family. I believe strongly in not compromising my morals when running my own business.
I am for kindness, compassion and inner growth. I believe that everyone should meditate or connect to nature (through walking, surfing, swimming whatever it is for them) to ground themselves and develop a deeper awareness of the world we live in. I am for loving kindness towards yourself, mother earth and the creatures we share her with.
I am working in the fashion industry. But I am not into fashion. In fact I would like to distance myself and my business from a lot of the stereotypes the word "fashion" is associated with. I am making clothes - yes. Clothes that last, that are kind to you and our planet. And in contradiction to a lot of big fashion companies and brands I believe that everyone should get paid fairly for their hard work.
I choose certified cotton and organic cotton for my clothes not only because it lets your skin breath but also because it is a sustainable, natural source. In addition to this I am a fan of happy prints and colours - and love how they can underline a persons personality trait.
I also think that clothes should be cherished by the one who chose to buy and wear them. They should last and be loved so they don’t get thrown out and increase the rubbish mountains on our beautiful planet..I import the fantastic quality fabric from my home - Europe. I love to have this connection to home and to be able to share this quality and the European style with you here in Australia.
Clothes are touching your skin. Hugging your body. Be kind to yourself and choose something that actually makes you feel good. Not something that JUST makes you look good. .My pants are made to make you and your child feel comfortable. I believe they make it easier to meditate and do yoga. To connect to the earth and spirit and yourself. Because they are not the latest fashion - they are not about that. They are about much more than that..Lisa xx❤
